Cliques, clubs, teams, and gangs. These all dominate the social life of today’s high schools. So many of these teenagers have become popular or been put into categories because of others.
“Shattering Glass” is about a student named Simon Glass who is taken under the wing of the schools most popular students. In the beginning, Simon is at the bottom of the social ladder on account of other students bullying him to build their popularity. Seeing this, Rob, the leader of the school and his posse view Simon as a challenge and try to elevate his popularity. If they complete their challenge, this will also give them bragging rights. Eventually Simon becomes popular and an unknown aggression is released which leads to an unexpected murder.
Thankfully, this was a fictional novel but, people use and abuse their peer’s everyday to build themselves up. Not only does this happen in high school, this also takes place on the job or in college as well. Society needs to stop categorizing others and just accept them for who they are.
